چکیده

We report the discovery of an X-ray neb-ula associated with the nearby millisecond pulsar PSR J2124−3358. This is the first time that extended emission from a solitary millisecond pulsar is detected. The emission extends from the pulsar to the northwest by ∼ 0.5 arcmin. The spectrum of the nebular emission can be modeled by a power law spectrum with photon index of 2.2 ± 0.4. This is inline with the emission being originated from accelerated particles in the post shock flow.

Searches for diffuse X - ray emission around millisecond pulsars : An X - ray nebula associated with PSR J 2124 − 3358

We report on diffuse X-ray emission associated with the nearby solitary millisecond pulsar PSR J2124−3358 detected with XMM-Newton and Chandra. The emission extends from the pulsar to the northwest by ∼ 0.5 arcmin. The spectrum of the nebular emission can be modeled with a power-law of photon index 2.2 ± 0.4, in line with the emission originating from accelerated particles in the post shock flo...

VLT observations of the solitary millisecond pulsar PSR J 2124 − 3358

About 100 millisecond (ms) pulsars have been identified in the Galaxy, and only ≈ 10% of them are solitary, i.e. without a binary companion. Nothing is known on the optical emission properties of millisecond pulsars. Observations of solitary millisecond pulsars are the only way to detect their faint optical radiation, otherwise buried by the brighter white dwarf companion. As in the case of sol...

Discovery of an X-ray Synchrotron Nebula Associated with the Radio Pulsar PSR B1853+01 in the Supernova Remnant W44

We report the detection using data from the Advanced Satellite for Cosmology and Astrophysics (ASCA ) of a hard X-ray source in the vicinity of the radio pulsar PSR B1853+01, which is located within the supernova remnant (SNR) W44. PSR B1853+01, a 267 ms pulsar, has to date been detected only in the radio band. Previous observations at soft X-ray energies (e.g., with ROSAT HRI) have failed to d...

PSR J 1856 + 0245 : Arecibo Discovery of a Young , Energetic Pulsar Coincident with the TeV γ - ray Source HESS J 1857 + 026

We present the discovery of the Vela-like radio pulsar J1856+0245 in the Arecibo PALFA survey. PSR J1856+0245 has a spin period of 81ms, a characteristic age of 21 kyr, and a spin-down luminosity Ė = 4.6 × 10 ergs s. It is positionally coincident with the TeV γ-ray source HESS J1857+026, which has no other known counterparts. Young, energetic pulsars create wind nebulae, and more than a dozen p...
